THEY WANT YOU TO PAY MORE TO SUBSIDIZE NEIGHBORING TOWNS
Commenting on the regional high school funding formula, Democratic
Council candidate Smith rejected our strategy to fight for equity in the
courts, and instead states that WCL is a wealthy town with responsibility
to shoulder the extra burden. He further says that our town should
make a bigger commitment to the communities surrounding us*.
THEYRE BIG ON PROMISES, BUT SHORT ON SPECIFICS
Democrats Kettler and Higgins admit that they havent yet reviewed the
financial records of the townbut they would like to do so*. Thats
strange! If they dont know any of the facts and have no recommendations,
then how can they possibly deliver on their commitment to lower
taxes?? In spite of their campaign bravado and glib comments, its clear
they dont have the slightest idea on how to further reduce costs or
taxes, and arent above making empty promises just to get your vote.
THEY DISTORT THE FACTS
Democratic campaign literature boasts
that Rosenblatt was the only Councilperson to vote NO on the BMW
applicationbut its not true. While on the Planning Board,
Rosenblatt voted YES to approve the application not once but twice, on
6/12/06 and 8/14/06. Recently, he claimed that the BMW expansion adds
nothing to WCL. Since when is $100 million in tax ratables
nothing? Its not surprising that their campaign literature
continues to be filled with misinformation, but youd think that after
Higgins was found GUILTY of defamation in a court of law that
theyd try to be more truthful.
THEY IGNORE POPULAR DEMANDS FROM RESIDENTS
Councilman
Rosenblatt wants to do away with celebratory fireworks...one of the most
popular activities in town for young and old*. He also sees no value in the Old
Mill refreshment stand, which was the top request by pool members, and also
provides a source of added income for the town. Last but not least, he is
pushing for a free town newsletter that he wants to outsource to an
outside vendor: a vendor who will immediately fill our newsletter with
intrusive advertising from sources of its own choosing. Despite resident outcry
for more privacyas evidenced by the popularity of the
Republican-initiated No-Knock ordinancethe Democrats want to
give outsiders MORE access to your home mailboxes
a high price indeed.
