At a recent dinner party held by the Woodcliff Lake Republicans, two individuals were nominated as the chosen slate of candidates to represent them in the June primary. Tony DeVito, Chaiman of the Republican Club Nominating Committee, presented the slate to the membership.
John Glaser, a 25 year resident of Woodcliff Lake, is a community activist. He is a Founder and Officer of the Woodmont Civic Association. A leader in the fight to block approval of the proposed heliports on Timeplex in 1985 and the Mack-Cali building in 1995, John also fought successfully to limit retail expansion of shopping centers and the over development of the Chestnut Ridge Road corridor. He is a member of the Citizens Cell Tower Committee seeking to restrict cell tower intrusions. John is a true believer in preserving the character of Woodcliff Lake.
He was a member of the Planning Board for 13 years from 1984 to 1997. He also served on the Affordable Housing Council. John was Director of Fund Raising for WCL-TV since 1990.
A graduate of Polytechnic Institute of New York where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's in Management. He is responsible for corporate telecommunications planning and management for a Montvale based medical products company.
John and his wife Vicki have two children, Ramona and Victoria. He was active in a variety of sports programs during his children's school years. They are members of Our Lady Mother of the Church.
Joanne Howley is a 30 year resident of Woodcliff Lake. During this time, she has served the community and its youth. Residents know Joanne as the secretary of Parks and Recreation for the past ten years. Her friendly face greets families as they sign up for pool, tennis and camp. Joanne served as a soccer and softball coach for over 10 years and is currently active in Youth Sports Guidance Programs. Joanne and her husband, Bill, presently administrate the town's Tennis Clinic. As a parent, she was active in the PTA, organizing and administrating food programs in the Dorchester and Woodcliff Schools.
Joanne is the co-chair of the "Woodcliff Lake Day" and the town Holiday Decorating committees. She is a member of the Werimus Road Ad Hoc committee and the millenium committee. Joanne is a member of the Boro Hall staff, assisting the treasurer.
A graduate of NYU and Ramapo College, Joanne hold a degree in accounting. She was an energy analyst for an international firm and is presently a graduate student at NJIT.
Joanne and her husband Bill have three children, Alyson, Cindy and Bill and her grandchildren attend the Woodcliff Schools. Joanne is a member of Our Lady Mother of the Church.
Joanne's dedication to Woodcliff Lake makes her an excellent candidate for the council.
In other business, the Republicans also announced its officers for 2000. Paul Camella - President, John Glaser - First Vice President, Nancy Foster - Second Vice President, Robert McDonough - Treasurer, Dick Purcell - Secretary, Marijane Singer - Parlimentarian, Bernie Kettler - Sergeant at arms.
