Dont Turn Back the Clock
THE LAST TIME ROSENBLATT & HIGGINS WERE IN
OFFICE
- Higgins & Rosenblatt presided over the most litigious period
in WCLs history
- Higgins & Rosenblatt avoided public scrutiny by having Closed
Session discussions at almost every Council Meeting.
- Higgins bungled the Park Ridge Water Company contract,
resulting in a CS charge of $52 per year to every residence for 20 years. Total
cost to WCL residents: $2 million
- Higgins & Rosenblatt pushed to close the Old Mill Pool,
rather than do the work necessary to save and restore it
- Higgins & Rosenblatt created an adversarial relationship
with Hillsdale, Montvale, Park Ridge and other surrounding towns, and
negative news articles about our town were routine in the local newspapers
- Higgins & Rosenblatt pushed to change our towns government
(an ill-conceived idea that was overwhelmingly defeated by voters). Rosenblatt
hired the counsel for the Bergen County Democratic Organization to represent
our town, costing taxpayers thousands.
- Rosenblatt wanted Woodcliff Lake to award a $25,000 retainerin
direct conflict with the strategy of the Pascack Valley Mayors
Associationjust for an attorney to show up at ONE public FAA meeting.
The overall retainer would have been $250,000.
- Employee turnover at Borough Hall during the Higgins
administration reached 80%, with morale hitting an all-time low: they fired
the Borough Administratora highly-respected and competent 23 year
employeeand replaced him with a political appointee, costing the
borough over $150,000 in severance; they fired our very competent Parks
& Recreation Directorby leaving a message on his answering machine on
Christmas Eve; they fired the long-standing Borough Attorney, replacing him
with a political appointee
And what about the new Democrat Bernie
Kettler?
Why would anyone switch parties for a team like this? Consider the
following and judge for yourself:
- Kettler served as a Republican Councilman & Mayor until 1995. He
lost in a contentious campaign against Josephine Higgins, and walked away from
public service.
- In 2004, he ran for Council as an Independent, and was again
defeated.
- This year, hes running again, pitching himself as a Democrat.
- Salaried public servants with 25 years of service are eligible for
full, LIFETIME medical benefitspaid for by Woodcliff Lake taxpayers
- Bernie Kettler is less than 2 years shy of the 25-year mark. Hmmm.
A vote for this Democratic ticket is a vote for inept
management, questionable motives, and ill-advised leadership decisions that end
up costing us all!
The Republicans have guided Woodcliff Lake to a time of prosperity,
improved recreational facilities, town beautification, efficient and open
government, increased corporate ratables to alleviate the tax impact on
residents, and great neighbor relations with other towns. Weve become the
envy of the Pascack Valley, and the team of LaPaglia, Bader, Singer &
Langschultz will work to keep it that way. So please
DONT TURN BACK THE CLOCK!
